Photoshoot Plan - Adam Brown 1

Photo shoot planning document

Date and time of photo shoot: TBC

Material to be shot:
For my cover, I will be shooting my model in a manner that portrays my magazine as dark and dramatic, but – in actual fact – I am making a statement about rules of grammar, one that is being symbolised by a Guy Fawkes mask (that has connotations of deceit as it is because of the Gunpower Plot). The mask represents grammar, something that is covering true art in writing because of such strict rules. Then, my model will be holding a quill, and this will be a representation of writing itself. The stance will be a side-shot  with the quill held up, and the mask looking back at the camera with narrow lighting to create a shading on one side of the face.

What personnel do you need?
Lighting assistant: N/A
Makeup assistant: N/A
Models: Adam Brown

What props will you need?
- Quill
- Mask

Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs. (Include reference material to illustrate your needs)
There are no make-up needs because I am already using a mask for my shoot. However, for the costume, I will require my model to wear a sweater and a shirt. This is a largely academic look, if not literary (as the stereotype goes). Some smart shoes and trousers are also a requirement because it’s important that my model has a smart look. The sweat should be black, as this colour has connotations of mystery and deceit which fits aptly with the message that my cover is trying to convey.

Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
(include reference material to illustrate your needs)
I will be using narrow lighting because this would create a shadow effect on the mask of my model, leaving a darker tone. I want this because it creates more of a mystery on my cover which is something that seems to prevailing on my cover and even throughout the DPSs. It’s this lighting that would give a dark air to the magazine, and would induce feelings of curiosity in my reader because it’s rare that a writing magazine would have dark images on the cover.

Backdrop: The backdrop will be a darker colour also (grey), but not because I want to further the mysterious feelings, but rather because I want a colour that would allow a contrast with the yellow on the mask. What’s important for me to remember is that I am primarily trying to evoke a worrying feeling that makes the readers wonder what this mask has to do with writing.

Lighting equipment needs: For lighting equipment, I will be using a light to the right of the camera with a reflector to the right also so that I am creating lighting on the left side of my model’s face, leaving the right shrouded in shadow.
